Energy storage analyst (internship) - January 2020

We are now looking for an intern in his/her final year of study, who could be interested in being offered a permanent position after the internship and who is looking to join a team of experts in energy storage – and to become one him/herself!

Internship description

The internship consists in working with the technical team to upgrade the tools and products offered by Clean Horizon to its clients. These activities can take the form of:  

  • Building a multi-energy simulation model of a battery system in Simulink, which will serve to compute the energy losses based on the utilization pattern of the battery and the environmental data (temperature …).
  • Completing the database of existing energy storage project worldwide (CHESS). The applicant will also be responsible for enriching Clean Horizon’s database through actively attending conferences and symposiums in Europe (and, potentially, other continents)

Timing

The position opens as of January 2020.

Clean Horizon is looking for a last-year intern with 6 months to devote to this experience. 

If the internship is conducted successfully, Clean Horizon aims at offering a permanent position at the end of the 6-month period.

Motivation

The applicant will need to be attracted by sustainably participating in the growth of a young consulting company with a unique vantage point on a promising sector. Clean Horizon is seeking to offer a permanent position to the intern after the end of the internship, so a dedicated and motivated intern will be highly welcome.

The applicant should have a genuine and deep interest for the energy sector.

Skills and Experience

§  Credentials

The position is open to masters’ level students in Engineering (ideally electrical engineering).

Clean Horizon welcomes applicants who need to write their thesis. The exact topic will be finalized during the internship and will be linked to energy storage.

§  Language requirements

The position is based in France though the working language is English and implies international travel:

  • Fluency (both written and spoken) in English is a must.

  • Fluency in French and/or in Spanish and/or a third language will be considered a plus.

You should be enthusiastic about working in an international environment.

§  Analytical skills

You have a clear capacity to rapidly grasp the “overall picture” while maintaining attention to details.

You are not afraid of abstraction and of mathematical models.

You are rigorous when dealing with figures and simulations.

§  IT skills

You will need to master Powerpoint and Excel, including designing VBA macros, and not to be afraid of using new softwares.

The mastery of Matlab/Simulink is (really) preferred but is not a requirement.

Any experience on power systems analysis software (DigSilent’s PowerFactory, PSS/E) is a plus.

§  Interpersonal skills

You are curious, open-minded.

You think outside of the box and enjoy proposing innovative ideas and executing them.

Material conditions

The internship takes place in central Paris, France.

Clean Horizon provides the following remuneration/advantages:

  • Up to 1400€ gross monthly income based on the candidate’s credentials and experience

  • Transportation card taken in charge at 100% to commute to Clean Horizon’s Paris office

  • Lunch subsidized at 50% through the French “Ticket Restaurant” scheme
