Energy Storage news - August 14th, 2020

This week’s TOP 5 talks about CenterPoint Energy's tender for up to 1.3 GW of solar, wind and storage capacity, the approval of Vistra's expansion plans for the California Moss Landing project to reach 1,500MW/6,000MWh of battery storage, the completion of South Somerset's 30-MW Fideoak Mill battery project, GRIDSERVE's acquisition of the Clayhill solar-storage project and Duke Energy's plans to shift investments towards solar and storage.

  1. Indiana-based SIGECO, part of CenterPoint Energy, is tendering for up to 1 GW of solar plus storage and 300 MW of wind to replace 730 MW of coal-fired capacity by 2024.
  2. Vistra Energy got the approval for a 4-hour, 1,200-MW extension to its notorious 300MW/1,200MWh Moss Landing battery storage project in California for a total capacity of 1,500MW/6,000MWh.
  3. Kiwi Power installed the final 5 MW of capacity at the 30 MW Fideoak Mill battery project in South Somerset, England.
  4. In an effort towards becoming a service provider, Anesco sold its Bedfordshire Clayhill solar-plus-storage-project to GRIDSERVE. This UK ‘subsidy-free’ project combines 10 MW of solar PV with 6 MW of battery storage.
  5. In the aftermath of a $1.6-billion loss due to the cancellation of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, Duke Energy is eyeing “low-cost, smaller-scale” investments such as solar and battery storage.
