This week’s TOP 5 includes the approval of Neoen’s AU$500 million solar-plus-wind-plus-storage superhub in South Australia, the go-ahead for a 100MW/100MWh battery storage complement to a 280 MW solar plant in Whyalla, Australia, the announcement of a 35.6 MW solar plus 35.6MW/44.2MWh storage project in St. Kitts and Nevis, NYPA’s US$ 30 million funding for a 20 MW battery storage demonstration project and Dominion Energy’s plan regarding four battery storage pilot projects in Virginia, USA.
- The Crystal Brook Energy Park was greenlit by South Australia’s government. It will combine 150 MW of solar with 130MW/400MWh of battery storage and 125 MW of wind.
- Simec Zen Energy obtained development approval for the 100MW/100MWh Playford Utility Battery that will complement the 280 MW Cultana Solar farm.
- Leclanché is set to build a facility combining 35.6 MW of solar PV with 35.6MW/44.2MWh of storage in St. Kitts and Nevis to cover a quarter of the twin-island nation’s power needs.
- The New York Power Authority will be funding a 20MW/20MWh lithium battery storage demonstration project to study its potential for congestion management and renewable integration.
- Dominion Energy has unveiled its plan for four storage pilot projects totalling 16 MW. These projects are enabled by the Grid Transformation & Security Act of 2018 allowing the utility to invest in up to 30 MW of battery storage pilot projects.
