Energy storage news - February 1st, 2019
This week’s TOP 5 includes the inauguration of 108 MW and 648 MWh of Sodium-Sulphur batteries in the United Arab Emirates, two solar plus storage projects totaling 13 MW of energy storage capacity being developed in the UK, a 1.2 MVA storage system being deployed in Brazil, a 500 kW battery installed in Michigan (USA), and a 20M£ program aiming at funding pilot energy storage projects in the UK.
- The 108 MW / 648 MWh project by NGK in the United Arab Emirates has officially been inaugurated. The system is composed of 12 batteries of 4 MW each, as well as three 20 MW systems.
- The Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC), a local UK authority, has unveiled plans to develop two solar plus storage projects on landfill sites, representing a total energy storage capacity of 13 MW/ 7.5 MWh.
- BYD and Brazilian project developer Alsol have signed a partnership to deploy energy storage projects in Brazil. Under this partnership, Alsol will deploy a 1.2 MVA system for Brazilian utility CEMIG. (in Portuguese)
- Consumers Energy, Michigan’s largest energy provider, has installed a 500 kW battery together with a solar system in Grand Rapids, as part of an experimentation.
- The UK government is making 20 M£ available to finance three demonstration projects of new energy storage technologies.
