Energy storage news - January 17th, 2020

This week’s TOP 5 includes the selection of NEC to provide two 50-MW battery storage projects in Northern Ireland, the commissioning of more than 5.6 MWh of ADB-backed energy storage across the Maldives, India’s intention to install 4 MW of solar PV systems with 2MW/1MWh of storage at one of its dams, Abu Dhabi’s $105 million grant that benefited solar and storage projects and the Portuguese government’s plans to include a storage component into its upcoming PV auction.

  1. NEC Energy Solutions will be providing two 50-MW storage systems to the Gore Street Energy Storage Fund (GSF) and developer Low Carbon in Northern Ireland.
  2. Asia’s Development Bank welcomed solar-battery-diesel hybrid systems across 48 islands of the Maldives.
  3. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) is planning to install 4 MW of floating solar with a 2MW/1MWh battery storage system in North Andaman.
  4. Abu Dhabi’s Fund for Development endows solar and storage with its latest US $105 million grant.
  5. The Portuguese government will be including a storage component into this year’s PV auction that is awaited by the end of March 2020.
