Energy storage news - January 18th, 2019

This week’s TOP 5 includes the commissioning of a 12 MWh flow battery in China, the commissioning of a 4 MWh Li-ion battery in Iowa by Invenergy, a plan to deploy 5 to 10 MW by Duke Energy in Florida, Shell and Anesco partnering on a 1.25 MW battery project in the UK, and flow battery manufacturer ViZn entering into a partnership with Chinese group WeView Energy. 

1. VRB Energy announced that the first phase of a 40MWh flow battery project in China, representing 3 MW and 12 MWh, has now been commissioned.
2. “Renewable energy developer Invenergy has initiatedcommercial operations of a 4 MWh LFP battery storage system located in Knoxville, Iowa, for MidAmerican Energy.”
3. Duke Energy has presented a plan to the City of Orlando for a 1 to 3 MWac solar plant plus a 5 to 10 MW energy storage facility to be deployed at a local sewage plant.
4. Anesco and Shell’s New Energies division are to partner on a utility-scale battery storage project in Norfolk, east England. The battery project is expected to have a capacity of 1.25 MW / 1.25 MWh
5.  “ViZn announced that the company entered into a strategic alliance with WeView Energy that includes a minority equity investment, a China licensing agreement, and a mutual commitment to exclusively pursue the China utility scale storage market with ViZn technology.”
