Energy storage news - July 27th, 2018

This week’s TOP 5 includes 770 MWh of vanadium flow battery capacity to be installed in Germany by RedT, Stem receiving 152 million USD in funding to develop projects in Ontario, the installation of a battery system by Tesla in Samoa, a plan by the Los Angeles department of water to turn the Hoover dam in a large pumped hydro station, and the amount of residential installations in the US in Q1 2018 reaching 36 MWh.

 

  1. UK-based vanadium flow battery manufacturer RedT has been contracted to deliver two 40 MWh systems in a first phase, and 690 MWh in a second phase in Germany. The systems will provide Secondary Control Reserve.
  1. “Stem Inc., a U.S. provider of energy-storage systems, arranged CAD 200 million (USD 152 million) in commitments from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan to finance projects in the province.”
  1. A battery system (provided by Tesla and Solar City) has been installed on the Samoa island. The project represents an investment of 8.8 million USD.
  1. The Los Angeles department of water has issued a plan to turn the Hoover dam in a pumped hydro storage facility. The modification would cost around 3 billion USD.
  1. Over 36 MWh of residential storage has been installed in the US in Q1 2018.
