Energy storage news - July 27th, 2018
This week’s TOP 5 includes 770 MWh of vanadium flow battery capacity to be installed in Germany by RedT, Stem receiving 152 million USD in funding to develop projects in Ontario, the installation of a battery system by Tesla in Samoa, a plan by the Los Angeles department of water to turn the Hoover dam in a large pumped hydro station, and the amount of residential installations in the US in Q1 2018 reaching 36 MWh.
- UK-based vanadium flow battery manufacturer RedT has been contracted to deliver two 40 MWh systems in a first phase, and 690 MWh in a second phase in Germany. The systems will provide Secondary Control Reserve.
- “Stem Inc., a U.S. provider of energy-storage systems, arranged CAD 200 million (USD 152 million) in commitments from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan to finance projects in the province.”
- A battery system (provided by Tesla and Solar City) has been installed on the Samoa island. The project represents an investment of 8.8 million USD.
- The Los Angeles department of water has issued a plan to turn the Hoover dam in a pumped hydro storage facility. The modification would cost around 3 billion USD.
- Over 36 MWh of residential storage has been installed in the US in Q1 2018.
