Energy storage news - March 1rst, 2019

This week’s TOP 5 includes the construction start of a 1500 MW PV plant including a 500 MWh battery component in Australia, the Spanish government proposing to create an energy storage mandate of 6 GW by 2030, Air Liquid deploying a 20 MW electrolyzer in Canada, the Minnesota state facilitating the deployment of energy storage, and the commissioning of a 2 MW battery system in Chile by Engie and NEC ES.

1. Sunshine Energy has broken ground on a power plant combining 1500 MW of PV and 500 MWh of energy storage near Brisbane, Australia.
2. The Spanish government is proposing to create a mandate for 3.5 GW of pumped-hydro storage and 2.5 GW of batteries by 2030.
3. Air Liquide will install a 20 MW PEM electrolyzer from Hydrogenics in Canada.
4. The Minnesota legislature has passed a law allowing IOUs to recover costs from the deployment of energy storage systems.
5. Engie and NEC ES have commissioned a 2 MW energy storage system in Chile, which will mostly be used to provide frequency regulation services. (in Spanish)
