Energy storage news - March 2nd, 2018

This week’s TOP 5 includes a plan by SDG&E to add up to 166 MW of energy storage at public facilities, a 2.5 MWh project developed by Stem in Ontario, Murata now offering utility scale storage systems to its customers, AES starting the construction of its 28 MW PV  and 20 MW / 100 MWh storage power plant in Hawaii, and Highview Power partnering with SNC Lavalin to deploy LAES in North America.

1. “San Diego Gas & Electric announced plans to add up to 166 megawatts (MW) of energy storage in a proposal submitted to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). If approved, the projects would support public-sector facilities that provide safety, security and emergency services during power grid outages.”
2. Ontario-based company INOAC selected Stem for the deployment of a 2.5 MWh storage system at its site.
3. Japanese company Murata offers utility-scale energy storage systems integrating Fortelion cells.
4. AES Distributed Energy and Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) have started the construction of AES’ 28MW solar and 100MWh storage project.
5. Highview Power partners with SNC Lavalin to deploy Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) in North America.
