Energy Storage news - November 15th, 2019

This week’s TOP 5 includes findings by the Energy Systems Catapult regarding the necessity of more than 1.4 TWh of energy storage in the United Kingdom, California’s need for 19GW/76GWh of storage by 2030, Ørsted’s plan to construct a 460-MW solar-plus-storage system in the United States, India’s HIL tender for 2.15 MW of solar-plus-storage projects and a €250-million support for LG Chem’s EV battery gigafactory in Poland. 

  1. To reach its 2050 net zero carbon emissions goal, the UK will be needing 1,400 GWh of energy storage
  2. To meet 2030's resource adequacy goals, California’s latest integrated resource plan suggests that up to 19GW/76GWh of energy storage will be needed.
  3. Danish wind leader Ørsted will be combining a 40MW/40MWh battery with 420 MW of solar PV in Texas, USA. 
  4. Hindustan Insecticides Limited issued a tender for 2.15 MW of solar-plus-storage projects.
  5. LG Chem received a €250 million push to support the construction of its €2.8 billion EV battery gigafactory in Poland.
