Energy storage news - November 23th, 2018

This week’s TOP 5 includes the announcement of 720 MWh of storage in Japan to integrate wind, a 25 MW project in Massachusetts to support the grid infrastructure, NEC ES announcing two projects awarded in Great Britain, South Australia launching a fund dedicated to grid scale storage and a partnership between Varta and Fraunhofer for battery cell development.

 

  1.  Mitsubishi has been selected to deliver an energy management system for a 240 MW / 720 MWh energy storage system to be installed in Hokkaido, Japan.
  2. Eversource Energy is working out a lease agreement with Provincetown, Mass. to site a 25-megawatt energy storage facility at the town’s transfer station. The energy will be used to “increase reliability and supplement the electric infrastructure for Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard,”
  3. NEC Energy Solutions announced it has been awarded contracts for two UK energy storage projects totaling 19MW initially developed by Origami Energy and acquired by Gore Street Capital.
  4. The South Australian Government has launched a AU$50 million Grid Scale Storage Fund to support construction of new energy storage projects in South Australia.
  5. Varta and the Fraunhofer institute announced a research partnership days after Germany’s Economy Minister Peter Altmaier unveiled a €1 billion (USD $1.1 billion) fund for battery cell development.
