Energy Storage news - November 29th, 2019

This week’s TOP 5 includes Convergent’s delivery of a 10MW/20MWh battery storage system at a Shell oil refinery and the completion of a 1.75MW/10MWh compressed air energy storage system in Ontario - Canada,  the commissioning of a Total Quadran solar-plus-storage project combining 10 MW of storage with 16 MW of solar PV in New Caledonia, the inauguration of Spain’s first distribution grid-connected system and the intervention of South Australian household batteries following a 784 MW generation outage in Queensland to maintain system frequency. 

  1. Once again, Convergent Energy + Power has delivered North America’s biggest behind-the-meter battery storage system – a 10MW/20MWh one - at a Shell oil refinery in Sarnia, Canada.
  2. Hydrostor and NRStor announced the completion of the 1.75MW/10MWh Goderich Advanced Compressed Air Energy Storage Facility located in Ontario, Canada.
  3. Total Quadran inaugurated the largest PV-plus-storage plant in Overseas France.  The New Caledonian Hélio Boulouparis 2 project combines 16 MW of solar PV with nearly 10 MW of energy storage.
  4. Spain’s first distribution grid-connected storage system started its operations to defer investments in 22 km of new distribution lines. Iberdrola’s €2-million, 3 MWh project will help improving energy supply in the region.
  5. South Australian household batteries came to Queensland’s rescue following the disconnection of a 784 MW generation plant.
