Energy storage news - November 9th, 2018
This week’s TOP 5 includes a 100 MW battery storage project in South Korea to be coupled with wind and PV, the commissioning of a project combining Li-ion and Sodium-Sulfar batteries in Germany, an agreement between Tata Power and EnergyVault for a 35 MWh gravitational storage project , RWE freezing its plans to deploy a 100 MW battery in the UK, and over 85 battery projects above 500 kW operational or announced in France.
- “South Korea’s government is planning for 100 MW of battery storage as part of a nearly 3 GW hub of solar PV and wind on reclaimed land”
- A battery project combining a 7.5 MW / 2.5 MWh Li-ion battery and a 4 MW / 20 MWh Sodium-Sulfur battery was commissioned in Varel, Germany.
- EnergyVault, a Swiss company developing a novel kind of gravitational storage, announced an agreement with Tata Power for the delivery of a 4 MW / 35 MWh system in India by 2019.
- “RWE has ‘frozen’ its planned 100 MW battery at the proposed Tilbury Energy Centre amidst concerns that the project’s Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) would not be able to secure Capacity Market contracts.”
- There are now over 85 energy storage projects measuring above 500 kW operational or announced in France. (in French)
