Energy storage news - October 19th, 2018

This week’s TOP 5 includes the acquisition of Kokam by SolarEdge, a 45 MWh battery system to be installed in Palau by Engie EPS, a partnership between Hecate Energy and InfraRed Capital, a 38.5 MWh battery project by esVolta in California, and a partnership between EDF and Nissan to develop second-life battery projects in the UK. 

1. Smart energy and inverter company SolarEdge will acquire the South Korean battery manufacturer Kokam.
2. Palau has signed a 30-year PPA with Engie EPS for a 35 MW solar power plant coupled with a 45 MWh energy storage system.
3.  “Hecate Energy and InfraRed Capital Partners have announced a partnership to form a new energy storage company called Hecate Grid, which will develop, build, own and operate utility-scale energy storage projects across North America.”
4. “Southern California Edison has selected esVolta to develop, build and operate four energy storage projects totaling 38.5 MWh in Riverside and Ventura counties, the companies reported.”
5. EDF Energy is partnering with Nissan to deploy second-life batteries. A first demonstration project should be installed in the UK at an industrial facility to take part in National Grid’s Demand Response Schemes.
