Energy storage news - October 5th, 2018

This week’s TOP 5 includes the second phase of the partnership between Fluence and UL Power Reserve, plans by the New York Power Authority to deploy a 20 MW battery system, Johnson Control and ConEdison forming an energy storage joint venture, a 1 MW battery system deployed by EDP in Romania, and Rolls-Royce investing in Qinous. 

1. UK Power Reserve has selected Fluence for the delivery and construction of 60 MW of energy storage systems. This volume adds up to the pre-existing partnership between UK Power Reserve and Fluence for the delivery of 60MW.
2. The New York Power Authority unveiled plans to establish a new 20 MW / 20 MWh battery project in Northern New York that will demonstrate the operation of a large-scale energy storage system.
3. Johnson Control and ConEdison are forming an energy storage joint venture. Under this agreement, the energy storage division of Johnson Control will operate as part of ConEdison’s Clean Energy Businesses.
4. EDP Renewables inaugurated a 1 MW battery-based energy storage system (apparently supplied by Siemens) in Romania. The system is located at one of EDPR’s wind farm.
5. Rolls-Royce invested in Berlin-based energy storage system integrator Qinous.
